The Winter’s Praise
By Tyler Morrison
I shall sing the winter’s praise Through longest nights and shortest days, On frozen streets, in broken verse, Through hailstorms instead of snow. For what house is home without a hearth, The heart of fire and family? And what is warmth without the cold? The cold reminds us And binds us together. We huddle closer, near the fire, And heat ourselves with food and drink, Spark up talk of pleasant things To banish the chill and dark. But the presence of friends And loved ones dear, The gifts and sweets and honest cheer Are merely candles to the sun. For when winter has only just begun, We celebrate our Savior’s birth. The Light of the World came down to earth! What meager hold has frost or night When sin and death were put to flight? Oh, sing with me the winter’s praise!
